FOOTHILLS TU UPDATE

Hello Everyone --

Just wanted to get out an update on upcoming Foothills TU happenings. Our December meeting will be dinner and fellowship at El Jinete mexican restaurant in Clarkesville on Tuesday December 12th at 6pm. We were unable to secure reservations for our normal Thursday night meetings, so we opted for Tuesday the 12th. Please put this on your calendars and plan to attend. We had a great time last year and this year should be no different.
The Hoot on the Hooch has been set for March 23rd 2024. Please add this to your calendars and plan to attend and help out. This is our main fundraiser for the year and allows us to make a difference in our community. This year, the dream trip winners will be announced at the ‘Hoot !! Hopefully this will give us a boost in attendance. Please start gathering items for our silent auction and bucket raffles, as these are important to our fundraising effort.
Dream Trip tickets are on sale now !! This is the Georgia TU Council’s fundraising event that makes Trout Camp possible. Without this fundraising event, Trout Camp would not exist. Guy Eroh, Film & Video Chairman for the Georgia Council put together this film made at last years Trout Camp: https://vimeo.com/883636528/ffbf55bede?share=copy
Give it a view and see the difference Trout Camp makes in these kids lifes. Please be generous in your support of the raffle, Trout Camp is a wonderful opportunity that is supported by all of us. There are many fantastic prizes available, the grand prize truly is a Dream Trip that everyone would love to take. You can view the prizes and purchase tickets at this link :
Remember to designate Ga Foothills as your chapter as we receive $3 for each ticket we sell. This just helps us to do more good in our community.
I have received an application for the upcoming Trout Camp for a grandson of a couple of our members. We will discuss at an upcoming meeting. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving spending quality time with family and friends ! I look forward to seeing you all at our dinner meeting on Dec 12th.

June Foothills Meeting

Hello All –

Our June meeting is this coming Thursday June 8th. We will be returning to the Clarkesville library as the bank is not ready yet. Social time starts at 6pm, followed by chapter business at 6:30, with our program at 7 pm. Last month our meeting consisted of us meeting at the Helen end of the Hardman Farm Heritage trail and putting wire cages around trees that had been planted for the purpose of erosion control. While this is a good start, there is more that needs to be done to protect this area from eroding into the Chattahoochee River. Jeff Durniak has put together a presentation on what is occurring and steps that can be taken to mitigate it. This is an important project and there is much we as a chapter can do to help solve the problem, in cooperation with other interested groups looking to keep the Chattahoochee pristine for future generations. Please join us this Thursday and become part of the project.
Look forward to seeing you all there !!

Call for Volunteers!

Please come join the Rabun Chapter on Thursday, April 27 for a stream conservation project. We will be working under the supervision of the US Forest Service and GA Department of Natural Resources to construct new stream structures and perform maintenance on existing stream structures in Reed and Heddon Creeks. We will meet at 8:30 am at the “Double Bit” dispersed camping area, located alongside Reed Creek just off the Burrells Ford Road.

Directions to the work project:
From Clayton, GA take Warwoman Road (next to Ingles) approximately 13 miles to the intersection with GA Hwy 28.
Turn right onto GA Hwy 28 and go approximately 1.7 to Burrells Ford Road (FS Road 646) on your left.
Turn left onto Burrells Ford Road. This road is a fairly well-maintained gravel road. Go approximately 5 miles to a woods road on your left. This road will be marked with a TU sign.
Turn left onto this woods road and go 100 yards to the parking area. This woods road is rough and there is a shallow ford in the road. You may also park on the Burrells Ford Road and walk to the work project along the woods road.
Contact Tammy Hopton, Rabun Chapter Prez, at teajatee@gmail.com if you need more information.

Foothills October Monthly Meeting

Our guest speaker for the October Foothills Trout Unlimited meeting

will be Ben Smith.  Ben has been guiding in northeast Georgia for a few years and now works with Unicoi Outfitters.  One of Ben's specialties is Euro Nymphing so this is your opportunity to hone your own skills in this technique.  This meeting will take place on the water at Nacoochee Bend on October 13th beginning at 5:30 PM.  It is recommended you park in the gravel parking lot in front of Habersham Winery, across the highway from Nora Mill.  There was an expressed interest in having more "How To" programs for our chapter members.  We intend for this to be the first of many.
